Animal Hats book

On one of my visits to my favorite crafting store, "Michaels", I found this book, "Animal Hats", which has no stories or tales, but its content after becoming real helps tell many, many stories. After being blown away by these images, I decided to do a workshop, not that I haven't done knitting before, but needed to remember.

I decided to challenge myself and see if I can make one of these hats (actually I need two) until Christmas. Will I get to make this present for my Pirates???

Numa das minhas visitas à minha favorita loja de craftings "Michaels", encontrei este livro, "Animal Hats", que não conta historias de encantar, mas o seu conteúdo depois de se tornar real podera ajudar a contar muitas e muitas histórias. Depois de ter ficado encantada com estas imagens, decidi fazer um workshop, não que eu já não tenha feito alguns trabalhos em malha, mas precisava de relembrar muita coisa.

Mas resolvi desfiar-me a mim mesma e ver se consigo fazer um destes gorros (na realidade preciso de dois) até ao Natal. Conseguirei eu fazer este presentinho para os meus Piratinhas???

McQueen & Super Grandma team

When you have a grandmother at home, it's always party time, grandparents=treats, treats=candy & candy=cakes.

The cake mold on service was a metal pan that is nothing more than a McQueen cars collection, always with the same recipe (with chocolate), grandma doing the wonders of grandchildren.

To give even more to cheer to party, we had a Super Grandmother cook with two brave helpers. These helpers helped make cakes, but also helped to eat, if grandma didn't keep a close eye she would run out of dough for the cake, in the end one of the helpers almost plunged into the bowl to help grandma to shave the cup. It was only to save the washing hassle :P

Quando se tem uma avó em casa, anda-se sempre em festa, avós=mimos, mimos=doces e doces=bolos.

Ora a forma que andou ao serviço foi um molde de metal que tem nada mais que uma colecção decarrinhos do McQueen, sempre com a mesma receita (de chocolate), lá foi a avó fazendo as maravilhas dos netos. 

Para dar ainda mais animo a festa, tivemos uma cozinheira Super Avó com dois valente ajudantes. Estes ajudantes ajudaram a fazer bolos, mas também ajudaram a comer, se a avó se descuidava por pouco ficava sem massa para o bolo e no fim um dos ajudantes quase mergulhou na tigela para ajudar a avó a rapar a taça. Era só para poupar trabalho a lavar a loiça :P

Cousin to Cousin

I remember in my childhood enjoying finding small treasures in old trunks and suitcases from my parents and grandparents, finding clothes and toys that have very old stories to tell, the love for antiques and frippery really runs in my blood .

Wear or play with things that once belonged to other children has always been something common in my house, the economies of scale, was something important even then.

Since I had "JP", I have always had a great help in theese economies.

Better to see that the clothes and toys can last for generations, and really there is no need to spend so much money on things that will only be used for a year or a few months.

In grandma's trunk came a treasure full of wonderful stories to tell, a very special pair of boots, they are a high and expensive brand, UGG, but what makes it special is the fact they come from cousin "M" and probably were used by other two cousins "M&M". What histories they have to tell? I remember seeing them last year in my niece's feet when she came to visit us for Christmas and New Year, playing in the snow with the Pirates. 

This year they will warm my big Pirate's feet and certainly do many tricks in the snow. Probably for the next year they will go in my tiny little Pirate's feet. 

The question is when will they stop playing ?!

Thank you Aunt " I" for he remembered my Pirate little feet, who will play a lot with them and take care with love and always with the cousins in his heart, or should I say feet .

Desde pequena que me lembro de gostar de encontrar pequenos tesouros, em arcas e malas velhas dos meus pais e avós, encontrar roupa e brinquedos que tem historias antigas para contar, realmente o gosto pelas antiguidades e velharias corre-me no sangue.

Usar roupas ou brincar com coisas que já pertenceram a outras crianças sempre foi algo comum na minha casa, a economia de escala, desde cedo foi algo importante. 

Desde que tive o "JP", tenho tido sempre uma óptima ajuda nesta economia. 

Melhor ainda é ver que a roupa e os brinquedos das crianças podem realmente durar gerações e que não há necessidade de despender tanto dinheiro em coisas que só vão estar a uso por um ano ou uns meses.

Na mala da avó veio um tesouro maravilhoso cheio de historias para contar, umas botas muito especiais, embora sejam de uma marca conceituada e cara, UGG, o que as torna mesmo especiais são o facto de virem da prima "M" e provavelmente passaram pelas outras duas primas "M&M". Que brincadeiras terão elas para contar? Lembro de as ver o ano passado nos pés da minha sobrinha quando nos vieram visitar pelo Natal e Ano Novo, de andarem a brincar na neve com os Piratas. 

Este ano irão aquecer os pés do meu Pirata "quescido" e certamente fazer muitas brincadeiras na neve. Provavelmente para o ano irão andar nos pezinhos do Pirata pequenino. 

Resta saber onde quando irão elas parar de brincar?!

Muito obrigada a tia "I" por se ter lembrado dos pezinhos do meu Pirata, que ira brincar muito com elas e cuidar delas com carinho sempre com as primas no coração, ou devo dizer nos pezinhos.

A must must must haveeeeeeeeeeeee

Halloween already passed out but I got stuck in this kids jackets, from Little Goodall, I have to say I'm completely in love with this. I don't have more words than "I love it I want it".

O Halloween já passou mas eu estou completamente apaixonada por estes pequenos casacos da Little Goodall, que coisa mais doce, também quero voltar a ser criança para ter uma desculpa para usar uma coisa destas. Lindosssssss

O Panda e os "Caicas" at counting sheep time

One of gifts that came from Portugal was sent in by our friends "M&M" and their lovely children, Princess "S" and the little Martini BabyBoy "G".

I think it was one of the gifts that my 2 year old Pirate liked best, a DVD of our friend Panda and the "Caicas" (as he says).

As always these borrowed uncles were right on target, but after all they were the guilty ones that brought on the nightly delusions that haunt this night my little Pirate, yes because even though he's like his mom and loves music , dancing and singing , the "virus " of the "Caicas" was in introduced by these uncles who gave them their kids DVD (poor children who have been one day without their music, uncle "T" forced to go shopping at dawn the next day). But if the Pirate "L" would just sing at bedtime we'd be fine, but the delusion is such that he even goes over the dancing steps while in bed waiting for sleep to come. As the Portuguese saying goes, he that sings scares away his woes, and now with the added dancing to go with the singing.

Uma das prendinhas que veio de Portugal foi-nos enviada pelos nossos compadres "M&M" e pelos seus adorados rebentos a Princesa "S" e o pequeno Martini BabyBoy "G". 

Acho que foi uma das prendas que o meu Piratinha de 2 anitos mais gostou, um DVD do nosso amigo Panda e dos "Caicas" 2 (como ele diz com toda a graça).

Como sempre os tios emprestados acertam nos gostos dos pequenos, não fossem eles culpados dos delírios nocturnos que assombram este meu pequeno Pirata, sim pois porque o pequeno sai a mãe e adora musica, dançar e cantar, mas este "vírus" dos "Caicas" foi nos introduzidos por estes tios, que na véspera de partirmos para os EUA nos cederam o DVD dos seus pequenos (pobres crianças que ficaram um dia sem musicas, lá foi o tio "T" obrigado a sair às compras na madrugada do dia seguinte). Mas se o Pirata "L" se fica-se só pelo cantar na hora de dormir estávamos nos bem, mas o delírio é tal que até faz a coreografia enquanto está na cama à espera do sono vir. Como diz o ditado quem canta seus males espanta e já agora também se dança para animar os sonhos.

  

3 2 1 ready ... It's baking time.

Countdown in our kitchen, cake recipe on service was "Pão-de-Ló Simples" from recipe book "As Receitas Escolhidas de Maria de Lurdes Modesto" (The Selected Recipes from Maria de Lourdes Modesto), a very easy and fluffy cake, very healthy , this recipe doesn't use any fat and is always successful, the kids love it and prepared with the help of a Grandmother is the best.

It's just one day of party, but that doesn't decrease the number of cakes, each Pirate had their little party in kindergarten and of course a cake for the classroom .

Due to the number of cakes in such a short space of time we decided to make a variation of the recipe (substitute some sugar for cocoa powder). At the suggestion of the Grandmother, tried to create a marble cake, which did not work very well, it was just chocolate cake, but the kids loved it anyway.

What changed in the different cakes, was the decoration and shapes, with colorful fondant (already prepared), did the cake decoration, the party theme was Dinosaurs, with the help of some cookie cutters, cut some Dinosaurs to decorate cakes for school, at the Saturday party opted for shaping my own Dinosaurs, the fondant is very workable with our hands like play dough.

"Pão-de-Ló Simples"

Ingredients: For each egg, 1 tablespoon of sugar and 1 tablespoon of flour (with baking powder).

Preparation: Beat the egg whites very stiff, reserve. Whisk the egg yolks with the sugar until the mixture is white. Add the egg whites carrefully, alternately with the sieved flour. Finally bake in an non stick mold for 15 minutes (check if it is well cooked with a toothpick, if the toothpick comes out clean it's done). Preheat oven to 430°F and once the cake goes in reduce to 300°F.

Contagem decrescente na nossa Kitchenette, o bolo de serviço foi "Pão-de-Ló Simples" uma receita do livro "As Receitas Escolhidas de Maria de Lurdes Modesto", um bolo muito facil e fofo, bastante saudável, pois não leva qualquer gordura e faz sempre sucesso, os miúdos adoram e preparado com a ajuda da avó.

Embora o dia de festa seja o mesmo o numero de bolos nao diminui, cada um teve a sua festinha da escolinha e claro um bolo por sala de aula. 

Devido ao numero de bolos em tão curto espaço de tempo resolvemos fazer uma variante da receita (substituímos algum açúcar por chocolate em pó). Por sugestão da avó, tentamos criar bolo mármore, que não resultou muito bem, ficou apenas bolo de chocolate, mas os miúdos gostaram na mesma.

O que variou nos diferentes bolos, foi a decoração e as formas, com pasta de açúcar de varias cores (preparado de compra), fiz a decoração dos bolos, o tema da festa foram os Dinossauros, com o auxilio de umas cookie cutters, cortei uns dinossauros para decorar os bolos da escola, na festa de sábado optei por moldar os Dinossauros, visto que a pasta de açúcar se trabalha muito bem a mão como se fosse plasticina.

Pão-de-Ló Simples

Ingredientes: Por cada ovo, 1 colher de açúcar e uma colher de farinha (com fermento).

Prepação: Bater as claras em castelo bem firme. Bater as gemas com o açúcar até obter uma mistura esbranquiçada. Adicionar as claras ás gemas e ao açúcar cuidadosamente, alternadamente com a farinha peneirada. Por fim levar ao forno numa forma anti-aderente, durante 15 minutos (pode verificar se esta bem cozido com um palito, caso esteja bom o palito sai limpo). Pré-aquecer o forno a 220°C, ao introduzir o bolo reduz-se para 150°C.

When the times run ...

Pois é estas duas ultimas semanas estive um pouco "out".

Foram os anos dos Piratas e tivemos a visita de uma avó. Com a avó vieram muitas encomendas de Portugal para os Piratas e também muitos mimos.

Recebemos prendinhas muito giras de família e amigos, irei fazer alguns "posts" sobre elas para que possam saber um pouco do que se passou por aqui e claro actualizar as noticias sobre as novidades que vou encontrando sobre o mundo dos "Boys".

For this two last weeks I was a little bit "out".

It was the Pirates birthdays and we had a grandmother visiting us. With grandma many packages came from Portugal, so many presents and pamperings for my Pirates.

We received so many cute presents from family and friends, I will make some posts about them so you know a bit of what happened here and of course update the news about what I'm finding out in the of "Boys" world.
